To Be of Independent Mind

Since the early hours of a morning In May this year, as the results came flooding in from all around Scotland, and it became increasingly clear that not only had the SNP won the Scottish Election, they had turned the whole political map Yellow!
The first of the Unionist calls were heard, calling for an immediate Referendum on Independence!
As Scotland celebrated and its people looked on with wonder and incredulity at the magnitude of this political tsunami. The faces of BBC presenters and unionist politicians were a picture of complete and utter disbelieving shock at what was being witnessed!

The Scots people had voted, and they had voted conclusively all around the country, for a SNP Government. What was supposed to be impossible under the Labour created voting system, that was designed to ensure no party could win an overall majority by itself, had systematically been annihilated!
The very thing they never wanted to see happen, had happened!
The SNP had full control over the parliament!

From the North to the South, from the East to the West, seat upon seat fell to the SNP. Prominent Labour MSPs were turfed out on their ears, from seemingly safe seats!
The Tories had their worst ever proportion of the vote by percentage share that they had ever had in their history.
The Liberal Democrats were reduced to hanging onto the Northern Isles by their fingernails, having lost every other first past the post seat they had held.

Even the SNP Leadership could hardly believe what had been achieved. The seemingly Impossible had become Reality!

How could this be? What had happened to produce such a stunning result?

The answer lay with the people of Scotland. They had concluded that there was only one party and one leader they wanted to run Scotland! And It was not any of the Unionists! Instead, they all voted for security of sensible government. A government which would look after their interests in the face of Westminster incompetence.

Only one party could do this for them, and only that one party could be trusted to put the people of Scotland First! That party was the SNP and that that leader was Alec Salmond.

But in voting for strong sensible governance, and the security this could provide for them, they also voted for Change!

Not all who voted for the SNP would have been voting for Independence, but All of them knew that this was the SNP’s main reason for existence. So even those who voted for the SNP for other reasons, were comfortable with the thought that the question of Independence would be put to them at some stage in the coming parliament, and they were not frightened of the prospect! Instead by voting for the SNP they embraced the chance to have their say on the matter.
Scots have been denied for over 300years the right to have their say on this Issue. It was the question which the British Government could never allow to happen!

Even the Liberals who would happily have a referendum on just about anything from what type of sugar you put in your coffee to what sort of voting system you preferred, could never countenance the right of the Scots people to determine their own future.
In the previous parliament they had refused the chance of governing in coalition with the SNP, as long as the SNP were determined to put such a question to the Scottish people. But they were quite happy to form a coalition with the Tories in Westminster!
Collectively they with the other Unionist parties had thwarted the minority SNP government in the previous parliament from putting forward legislation for an Independence referendum.
Under no circumstance would the Unionist parties allow such a question!
However, the people of Scotland had clearly decided otherwise! And by voting for the SNP in such large numbers they had ensured their say, and that say will be had!

But even in the face of such a rejection of them, and their policies, the Unionists immediately started calling for an Immediate referendum!!
How could this be? They who had been so set against Ever having one, suddenly wanted one immediately!
It just doesn’t make sense, or does it?
The reason they wished to deny the Scots people from having the democratic right to make up their own mind previously, was because they thought that they stood a chance of losing a referendum, and that Scotland with all its wealth and resources would be lost to them!
They sure didn’t care for the best interests of the Scottish people and what was best for them. No, they only cared for all the money which made its way South to London every year!
The money from: Oil,Whisky,Tourism,Engineering,Fishing,Exporting,Finance and the Crown Estates.
Meanwhile, all the time eating away at the ability of Scots to get too prosperous and keeping them dependent on Westminster for handouts, lest they get too confident!

But in one night, all that changed!
They now needed to deny  Scotland the opportunity to examine and adequately assess the benefits of Independence, and to prevent them seeing what had been perpetrated against them by the lies, deceits and actions of the British State against them for centuries. One document kept Secret for thirty years, The McCrone report, tells all that Scots really need to know about such actions!

By pushing for a referendum immediately, they are hoping against all hope that they still can keep enough Scots from finding out even more of the truth of events, and that they may yet still succeed in winning it!
They also know that the longer into this parliament it goes, they cannot disguise for much longer the real state of affairs.
Which is why they will continue on a daily basis, decrying Scotland as too poor and too weak to survive alone, and will continue to endeavour preventing any investment by others In Scotland.

Failing all of the above, they will endeavour to rest the referendum away from us! To take control as they did in 1979 to prevent Scots Devolution.
But we have not forgotten, nor will we forgive!

But it is all too late!!
We Scots are of Independent mind and we will have our say, and we will decide for ourselves! We have been kept silent for far too long!

We Will Have our Say!! Our people will ensure it!

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod
