Oh Would you hear the caterwauling going on
They’re as noisy as a pack of cats,
who have had their tales stood on
We’ve tried assuring them with gentle words
we’ve tried reasoning with their doubts
But by their meowling and their squealing
One might think we’d turfed them out!

Some roam around in rabid packs today
They’ve been getting rather feral since last May
They’d been sitting round the house
creating a stench wherever they went
marking out their private territory
as if it was their personal parliament

It wasn’t us that made them homeless, not at all
It was the owners of the hoose that made that call
They’d had quite enough of all the messes that they made
the litter tray lay quite unused,
and what a stench when they all sprayed

So there they are on the outside looking in
Remembering other territories,Gunga Din
No one seems to want them, not one bit
Every place they ever went, they always left their sh*t

They are Federal Union Devolutionists ,it is true
That’s shortened down to FUDs, as that’s easier to construe
But by whatever name you call them, walk away
Ignore any purring at your leg
don’t believe a word these pussies say!

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod

As a cat person, I appreciate what you’re saying. But maybe you or someone can point me in the direction of the genius who christened the egregious politician Elmer Fudd in the first place – I am one of those pedants who like to get the origins of things. Credit where credit’s due, after all. Just as we have to admire Mr Ponsonby’s creation.

    • The Elmer Fudd description was made by the journalist Rab McNeil in his Holyrood diary in reference to the Labour leader Iain Gray and comparing him to the Disney Cartoon character Elmer Fudd.
Much as I enjoyed Mr Ponsonbys excellent article, I don’t think it was he who gave the collective name of FUD for Federalists,Unionists, and Devolutionists. That particular description of a FUD of a different colour had appeared on the Twittersphere much at the same time of the naming of the storm as Hurricane Bawbag. One of the first uses of FUD in this manner which I noticed was by Sophia Pangloss, although I think she may have picked up that description elsewhere.
Sorry I can’t be any more accurate than that, but hopefully my response will have helped clarify some of the most recent uses and modern origins of FUD for you.
