Toddlers Tantrums

With all the maturity of a jilted teenage lover or a toddler throwing toys out of his push chair, the Unionist parties and their media playthings continue to have hissy fits about the audacity of Scots showing an independent mind.

The verbal and written garbage which finds its way on a daily basis onto tv screens, and newspaper opinion pieces, continues on unabated in the BBC,the Daily Mail and Telegraph, and our own beloved Unionist press.
Not a day goes by without the same old junk being spouted as if it were some sort of Gospel or Divine truth. Variations of Too Poor, Too weak and Too Stupid ad infinitum.

In this internet age, the stories find their way around almost as soon as they have been spoken or printed. Not only that, but the internet comments on the newspaper opinion pieces are filled with a continual regurgitation of these FACTS by our unenlightened Southern Cousins repeating the nonsense which they read.
No matter how often they are told the true facts, they simply refuse to comprehend or believe what they are told. The same applies to comment boards in our own newspapers such as the Scotsman, where almost every article is negatively slanted against the SNP and Independence in general.
The Unionist Trolls pile in, and being mostly bereft of any intelligent argument, proceed to throw abuse in infantile terms.
It all gets a bit wearisome reading the same verbiage continually.
The closer it gets to an Independence referendum , the more it is spouted.

I have chosen a couple of comments at random, to show the level of debate, both from pieces I have seen today.

“Scotland is a nation of handout beggars and should be ashamed of itself”

“Getting rid of Scotland is not a defeat, it will be a welcome relief. Bring on the funeral!! ”

Unfortunately, many readers in England are consumed by the nonsense they have been fed and really have little or no understanding of the real state of affairs, and who can blame them? But the unwitting tactics used to try and keep Scots down by the Unionists Is actually achieving a contrary result to the one they wish for.
Scots have heard it all before a million times, and are now becoming increasingly immune to the unwarranted sleights and put downs.
The English on the other hand are now Increasingly wanting Scotland’s Independence because they believe us to be beggars, scroungers and junkies living the high life of free prescriptions, elderly care, free education, frozen council tax, and free bus travel for the elderly, while they do without.

In one article alone today, an English Daily newspaper gave out the following advice and FACTUAL information.

“We should briefly stop fretting about the break-up of euroland and start fretting about the break-up of the UK.”

Considering what they follow this statement up with,I am surprised we should be wanted, and not at all surprised by why their readership wouldn’t want us!

“The scheming SNP leader Alex Salmond is persistently fanning the embers of Scottish grievance, in the hope that he can spring on them a referendum on quitting the UK and signing up to the European Union as tartan version of some inconsequential place like Latvia.”

Latvia is inconsequential? I am sure the Latvians will be pleased to hear this!

“The Scots, notoriously canny when it comes to money, are reluctant to turn their backs on the bank of Mum and Dad. They know that with the rest of the UK forking out £11 billion a year in subsidies, they have got a great deal from the English taxpayer. No tuition fees, free personal care for the elderly and free prescriptions are just some of the wondrous perks of living north of the border.”

“At the same time, they are happy to blame the English for all of their ills, including their rotten weather and a largely moribund private sector.”

Being Bankrolled to the tune of £11 Billion a year by the English Tax Payers? Funny how there are no Tax Payers in Scotland, but perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised considering we are all alcoholic Benefit Scroungers?
Perhaps I should be surprised instead to know that Scotland actually pays the UK more of its GDP than it gets back. All Tax raised from Oil, Finance,Whisky,Education,Industrial Exports etc go to Westminster and doesn’t see the light of day in Scotland.
As for us having all those wonderful Free benefits, nothing Is stopping England from having them, other than a Westminster Government of any colour, not being prepared to provide them!
Our moribund private sector is doing very well considering, and has been the only private sector in the UK which has actually been growing, and taking up the strain of public sector job losses.
As far as our weather is concerned, we blame no one for it, In fact it is a source of amusement, such as Hurricane Bawbag!

“The break-up of the UK is a major challenge for us all. But many of us suspect that the Scots will never put their money where their mouth is.”

“What would happen to the £11 billion a year English subsidy?” (What that figure again? We will repeat it often, and keep repeating until it is true! Now,How much Is the Subsidy?? Repeat after me,£11 Billion!)

” Would the Scots have to set up and equip their own armed forces?”

(Naw ya numpties,we have Scots regiments,we are are also entitled to 10 percent of the UKs current armed resources, air force, navy etc. Or have you forgotten this has been a partnership and we demand a reasonable settlement. We don’t need vast armed resources because we will not be going to war in places like Iraq,Afghanistan and Libya,or whatever new oil grabbing conquest comes along)

” Would they have a Scottish foreign office and embassies across the globe?”

(As above,we are entitled to our fair share in settlement, and we don’t need to go poncing around,so we are happy to have our own office space in the current buildings)

” Would they raise taxes overnight and kill off what is left of their wealth creators?”

(You are kidding right?? We are trying to reduce Corporation Tax at the moment, but your lot wont let us because we would be too competitive! There are lots of nations and Corporations lining up to Invest, despite your best efforts to put them off! They know Independence is on the Horizon, and they like it,because we are a better bet!)

” Would they have their own border controls?”

(We might think you are numpties, but we will still allow you to visit when you like,we are known the world over for our hospitality, unlike some! Plus we will happily subscribe to the current Shengan open borders agreement)

” Would they consign themselves to permanent penury by joining the euro?”

(No we wont, we will decide what is the best course of action ourselves, once we have removed your shackles!)

” Would they need to show their passports to enter England?”

(Oh,so now it is you who want to put up border posts?
Are you wanting to leave Europe yourselves? Don’t answer that, I think we see your direction of backward travel.Funny how there are no border posts between Northern Ireland and Eire, but you seem to think that a Rump UK would want to cut its nose off to spite its face by building another Hadrians Wall? You will need us, more than we will need you! )

So on and so forth it goes. Why the protestations I wonder? If Scotland were really such a basket case, ask yourself one question. Why create such a stink about us leaving?

It is time that our neighbours Grew Up! I really do get concerned about their lack of emotional maturity. We won’t leave them helpless,we will help them survive,we wont see them destitute, we actually do like them, even if it is only to take the mickey!
As for our own Unionist Lackeys, well time for you lot to stop thinking about your own pockets, and start thinking about your countries common good. You are far more despicable in my eyes, because you know full well the true score, and have known for 300 years!
Accept that Scotland is re-emerging back onto the world stage, there is no turning back to subservience and unequal partnerships.
We are not a Region of England or Britain,we never have been. We are a Country, and Equal partner in our own right, and our people shall assert their Sovereignty, the one denied them by Rogues and their descendants since 1707.

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod

We need more of this stuff, such is the intensity of the negative media barrage, some people who are sitting on the fence may be influences unduly by this nonsense.

I noted your capitalisation of FACTS – it must be an acronym, perhaps:
F@#%ing Awful Contortion of the Truth about Scotland?

    Merry Christmas!

  4. Good blog post but I *do* wish you’d proofread. Being laden with errors makes a bad impression.

You’re a bit confused on border controls. The UK is not currently a member of the Schengen area. That is why we have passport controls when travelling between Scotland (or England) and the continent. Assuming that England still doesn’t want to sign up to Schengen post-independence, then we can’t have it both ways. If we stay in an open border agreement with England, as Ireland is, then we cannot join Schengen. If we want to join Schengen, then unless England changes its mind, we will have to have border controls between Scotland and England.

I’ve heard that Ireland is thinking about changing its mind and joining Schengen. If it does, there can no longer be open borders between Ireland and any part of the UK. Personally, although I’d like to see us all joining Schengen, if England won’t do it, then I think it’s a no-brainer that we would stay in a border agreement with England. Closing our only land border would be really silly.
