The Meaning of Independence

I am no quite sure if Unionists are completely thick or entirely stupid?
Some of them have great difficulty in understanding what the word Independence means. It baffles me why they keep coming up with the question, ‘What do you mean by Independence’? , honestly, how hard can a simple concept be?

They were at it again today, Johann Lamont asking Alex Salmond in First Ministers question time what it meant?
Jeez, If she cannot understand one simple word, how can she expect to actually hope to one day govern? No wonder her party has so much difficulty coming up with policies, other than, we are against whatever they are for, with regards to the SNP. It is almost primary school stuff. Ask a school kid what the word means, and they will come up with a reasonable answer, but she can’t?

In any case, the question was asked, what does Independence mean?
Alex Salmond wearily responded as such:
“I mean a country that is free to make its own decisions, that stands on its own two feet financially, which operates in co-operation with other countries in the world, which is not on the major issues of policy subjected to a direction of policy, for example the current attacks on people with disabilities, which are not supported by the Scottish population.

“I suppose by independence I mean the normal status of 200 nations across this planet.”

A reasonable enough answer I would say, but seemingly not reasonable enough for one Alan Cochrane the Scottish political editor of the Daily Telegraph, who loves throwing Insults at the SNP and Nationalists in general. He uses words like ‘uber-creeps who sit in row upon row behind the First Minister at Holyrood. ‘ to describe SNP MSP’s. Now, I don’t know who he thinks he is insulting? Is he insulting SNP MSP’s in general, or those of us who elected these ‘Uber-creeps’ ?
He goes on to say ‘the Nat “glee club” of backbench sheep, sorry MSPs, has been schooled — dragooned might be a better word — to shout “independence”. Of such is our new democracy made.’

Are they, or we who support Independence, sheep? Are we utterly conditioned to shout the word ‘Independence’ and not know what it means? Is the mandating of Independence sheep undemocratic? Are we of Independent mind unable to think for ourselves? Well certainly the Unionists like the British Imperial Government and Mr Cochrane, would love us to be dense, but we certainly are not!
We do know what Independence means, and we do not shout it out like trained parrots, whatever he may think.
To be of Independent mind, means that we can, and do, think for ourselves, and we don’t need anyone to tell us any different.

But No, the likes of Lamont and Cochrane prefer to insult our intelligence, while displaying their own lack of the same.
They prefer to use abusive terminology, like uber-creeps,to try and belittle us, without ever for one moment actually coming up with a positive argument, as to why we should remain in a disjointed bankrupt Union.
I am still awaiting an argument which will positively give a reason for Scotlands continuance in such, other than the tired old refrain of ‘we are stronger together, weaker apart’, when all that means is that they are stronger with us than without us.
I cannot deny that they are stronger with us, because they assuredly are! They know it, and we know it.
But that does not mean that we are stronger with them, because we are assuredly not!
We are hitched to their ever increasing trillion pound debt! We are stuck with their decisions to send us to war. We are slaves to their nuclear war heads! We watch helpless while they play hand servant to an unjust society where bankers get million pound bonuses for failure, Lords lord it up with £300 a day attendance allowances, and the poor get their disability and child benefits cut.

We watch on helpless, while they rip the fabric of a just society apart, privatise the health board, and anything else they can pawn for a quick buck. We have no say!

What does Independence mean? We are not helpless to stand up for a Society and Country we love, and we can make our own decisions of what is right and what is wrong, and we need not give our wealth to vagabonds and thieves.
Independence means we are Free to think and act for ourselves, and have nobody try to tell us different,or make decisions which we have no choice in.
Individual Independence for me means, telling the Cochranes and Lamonts of this world, You are the Sheep and Uber-Creeps, Not I!

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod

  1. Siôn Jones says:

What independence means will be shaped by the will of the Scottish people AFTER the referendum. But a far more pertinent and urgent question,is -what does the status quo (what you will be voting for if you vote NO) mean? With the Scotland bill still going through Westminster, and likely to be radically reformed before it is approved by the Scottish parliament, this is not a trivial question, which I suspect would leave Lamont speechless if someone was to ask her.
