Leaving aside the in’s and out’s and right’s and wrong’s of Britains Honours system. Today much has been made by Westminster politicians and News media and Current Affairs programmes, of the announcement that Sir Fred the Shred had been knocked off his beknighted horse and made plain Fred.
What was this really all about? The pantomime villain of the Banking world getting his comeuppance? The quintessentially English British establishment showing their disapproval of a thoroughly bad lot and a Rotter to boot? Or was this something else entirely?
Whatever you may think about Fred, or the Honours system, never before had someone been stripped of a Knighthood without committing a Criminal offence. Whether Fred had been morally reprehensible in some eyes, and some of his behaviour and actions have left a lot to be desired, he has never been charged or sentenced for Criminality in any court of Law.,
Lords have committed Criminal offences, but they are not stripped of their Lordships. Lord Watson of the burning curtains was made a Lord after serving a prison sentence for attempted arson. Lord Archer of I must tell a Lie, didn’t get his Lordship removed. He walked straight out of the jail and into the House of Lords for his £300 daily attendance allowance!
All the other Bankers who are Lords and Knights, who sat on the boards of these Banks during the Crash all keep their peerages and Lardy Arses intact.
So why pick on Fred the Shred? What makes him a special case?
If they are going to strip him, what then about all the rest?
Quite Simply Fred is Scapegoat! The whole charade is All Symbolism!
What was achieved by this action? Fred is in no way disadvantaged, other than losing the title Sir! He still has his massive pension to see out his days, and he wasn’t working anyway. Unlike some of his former colleagues who are now Lording it over other Big Business’s.
Ask yourself who gains, or hopes to gain by this Symbolic action?
Ask yourself what issues this action has highlighted, and why some would wish them to be brought to the public’s attention at this time?
Ask yourself what is the Real Message that the British Establishment want to get across, and to whom do they want to persuade?
There is much more to this Symbolic dishonouring than meets the eye!
Think about that! And see what game is really being played, and what the stakes are!
Only then do you get the real picture!
