Bad News in the Offing…BBC Scotland Unbalanced

Ok folks that’s it….Done and dusted…the last major election before the Independence vote in 2014.
Seemingly the turnout for the Council elections may have been slightly under what to expect for a stand alone Council election, but for the results we will have to wait until tomorrow, Friday.

Have we any indications how they might have gone? Well possibly.
Certainly STV’s head political commentator Bernard Ponsonby seems to think that it is likely that the SNP will be the overall winners, by having the most council seats, and the highest percentage of voter share. He even went as far as saying that if Labour have lost control of its two remaining councils, Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, that such a result will put Johann Lamonts retention of the Labour Leadership in Holyrood in jeopardy, even at this early stage in her leadership.
BBC’s Raymond Buchanan was not quite so bold in his predictions, but even he seemed to think that the SNP may be in a strong position, albeit because of a low turnout, and SNP activists being much more up for it than their Labour counterparts.
He spent most of his report bringing the fabricated Murdoch issue up yet again, this time trying to see if all the hoohaa they and the Unionist parties had been spinning against Salmond had in any shape or form had the desired effect of putting voters off voting for the SNP. The conclusive answer being, we don’t give a stuff, politicians speak to the media all the time, we want the important matters in our lives to be dealt with, and not all this unionist banging on about Murdoch or for that matter their constant carping about Independence.

So was BBC Newsnight Scotland happy with that? Not a bit of it!
What did they do next but regurgitate all the empty accusations and the last tortuous session of First Ministers question time when all the Unionists Leaders tried to make a sows ears out of a silk purse in their combined choreographed attacks on Salmond, and actually managed to make a dogs breakfast with Willie Rennie’s Winalot bowl shared between Davidson and Lamont.
They then brought on the usually balanced Ian McWhirter who has totally lost the plot over Murdoch, and Gerry Hassan who was in search of a Socialist Utopian Brigadoon, to attack Salmond and the SNP with the promptings of Gordon Brewer.
I have covered already what I think about the whole Salmond/Murdoch issue, so I wont go over that old ground again, other than to reiterate that there is still not a shred of evidence which says that Salmond has in any way behaved improperly in his dealings with Murdoch.

Yet, after a solid week and more of the BBC banging on about it, here they were again, going over the same boring ground to try and trash Salmond and the SNP. They were all keen to say that the SNP is in effect an unnaturally controlled dictatorship, because there are no evidence of fall outs and breaking of ranks amongst SNP MPs and Msps.Who do they think the SNP are? The Infighting Disorganised excuse for a Labour Party?

They concluded the programme with only newspaper headline they had time for…The Scotsman declaring that Scotlands Top Civil Servant is an SNP lackey.

Where was the BBC’s balanced reporting? Why was no alternative view sought for their attacks on Slamond and the SNP? Why was it so entirely negative towards independence supporters? Where was the fairness? They merely served to positively reinforce the accusations against of them of their hostility and outright bias against the SNP and Independence in general.
This one programme alone is proof positive of their misbehaviour and anti nationalist propaganda. Russia Today was right in their accusations against the BBCs anti Scottish propoganda machine, and lets face it, they should know a thing or two about such Paravda behaviour when they see it!

SO why? What brought on this onslaught tonight from BBC Newsnight Scotland?

The answer i think, Is that they know already how the voting is going to turn out tomorrow, they will have seen the exit polls, and they don’t like what they suspect will be the results.
They are afraid they are not going to be able to trash the SNPs results, and it could even be very bad news for the Unionist partys.
So they do what they do, go on the attack again tonight against the SNP, but in an even more unhinged manner than normal.
They obviously didn’t even get the voter response outside the polling booths or in the parks today in Glasgow that they fervently hoped for, attacking Salmond over Murdoch. So the motto is try harder, and go in again on the attack. Comparing Salmond with Sleazeball warmonger Blair really took the biscuit!

I think folks that we have our own pre indication of the results tomorrow……I think that there will be some very happy independence supporters out there when we hear the outcomes.
Now lets if I am right?

This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. 1. Here I am again, I missed Newsnight Scotland, but I’ve been a worry wart for nothing?you have written so optimistically that I’m cheered up no end, might make a pot of tea,aye I will. Thanks again for a good article, and I hope you get better comments than mine,or at least more.Do you reckon that we are going to have a constant attack on the First Minister, about talking to Rupert Murdoch, for the next two years?if we have taken enough councils do you think we might get one or two papers changing their minds and giving us some support? or would that be just too much for them?

I stood at a school in Clydebank today, smiling and giving out voting leaflets for our SNP candidates. I spent my time speaking with the Labour folk doing the same and obviously the conversation got round to independence where I simply asked “Aside from your feelings for you party, what are your feelings on independence?” Apart from one lass who was a don’t know, all the others were in general favour with one notable ex-MP admitting that there were many good arguments for independence. This was the chap who initially challenged me on the whole question but couldn’t give me any good reasons why we should stay as part of the union. The last chap I spoke to predicted a major shake up in the Labour Party in Scotland and said “No matter what, we will never be the same again.”
I obviously support our candidates in the council elections but see it as a side show and cant wait to get my teeth into the bigger struggle that is to come. My feeling is that there will be a major stushie within the rank and file Labour membership in the not too distant future resulting in a breakaway group supporting independence and it is this predicted group that will connect with their supporters. When this happens IMO, independence will be a shoe in.

  3. Ian Sanderson says:
