Many long years ago, Joe South recorded a hit Country music song called ” The Games people play”
The opening verse to that song is as follows
“Oh the games people play now
Every night and every day now
Never meaning what they say now
Never saying what they mean
And they wile away the hours
In their ivory towers
Till they’re covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine”
The past while has been filled full of games that people play.
Some of them a hell of a damn sight more serious than others.
We have had the Libor Banking scandal, where the Bankers have been caught out again, ripping everyone off, and playing games with everyone’s money but never their own.
It turns out that these big banks were ripping everyone off long before the 2008 crash, and they were playing monopoly while exercising their monopoly.
Who was the government in charge of the Uk which allowed them to do as they did, and who was it’s last chancellor? Ahh yes it was Labour ,Darling!
So Labour allowed and encouraged the Libor scandal? That seems ironically apt, as Labour should have been known as Liebour, and they are still at it.
Ironic is it not that Darling is now leading the Better Not campaign, or Better together as long as you don’t mention the NO word.
The Better Not campaign, have kicked off now, with fantastic backers like the Miss Inverness lassie, and some student guy who fears for sausage rolls in an Independent Scotland…What was their inspired message for all of us? We are better together….just don’t ask how or why? They haven’t quite managed that simple question yet.
So, just more word games from them, like..say Separatists as often as you can, say Better together and kid on it’s really utterly butterly, and its carries 90% less Independence than the real thing, so thereby must be better for you.
While that lot were kicking off, the Newco Rangers saga has gone Epic.
The latest word I have on that whole sorry saga, is that the Self Preservation League, coupled with those who do SFA have been pressurising the SFL to accept the Newco into Division 1, otherwise it will be a real disaster for the wee diddy clubs, and they will all face Armageddon unless they do as they are told, and bend over!
Strangely, the tactics have mirrored those of the UK government, with threats, and the promise of imminent catastrophe and disaster for them all, should they dare think for themselves, or take an independent decision.
The diddy SFL clubs seem to be telling the Self Preservationists and the SFA to FOff,and latest word on the streets seems to suggest that the moral chairmen of the SPL are about to do a U Turn and vote Newco into the SPL after all, because they have been threatened by their Corporate Sponsors, that the contracts will be ripped up, or severely restructured if Newco forced to apply for Division 3 .
So its all very much like the Banks swinging the UK government around by the tail. Corruption is Rife, morality and justice are shop soiled goods.
If only ordinary Scots people showed the same moral rectitude and determination to see justice and right prevail, in other areas apart from football supporters outrage. We should be telling the Self Preservationists of Westminster Condemlabour party, and the City of London Financiers who are bank rolling the Better Not campaign, and this socially unjust ConLib government where to stick it!
Funny old game it is too, when Cameron is quite happy for the Falklands to vote on Independence, then announces that Its ok to have a referendum on Separating from Europe, When Scots are supposedly the Separatists.
But there is another game in town this week. The Tennis at Wimbledon.
Yet again the Brit Pack are hoping for Andy Murray to make the final, even if they don’t really like him, and he is not Tim Henman.
With Nadal out of the road, he might have a chance of getting to that final, and the union jacks are flying or being worn.
That is until he loses and becomes Scots again.
I don’t know who was watching Andy’s beat the clock under the closed roof of Wimbledon the other night? I certainly enjoyed it, and the crowd did too.
The closer it came to the 11pm deadline for last orders, the quicker Andy was dispatching the points as if they were pints before the bell went. It was certainly quite gripping stuff.
Events before the roof was closed, were decidedly unsure and low key and anxious, with lots of questions over how Andy was coping, and was he about to stumble once too often, yet again.
But when they came back out, the speed cranked up, Andy was hitting harder and more accurately as the finishing line came into sight. It was like a whole new ball game, and Andy finished off the final set by a score of 6-1, with the crowd in raptures, and the noise levels going through the closed ceiling.
It sort of reminded me of where the YES Scotland campaign is at the moment. The YES campaign, while clearly better than the opposition, is still somewhat unsure, and it is stumbling a bit, with the supporters feeling a wee bit anxious. It has taken a couple of small knocks by not quite having all parts of its game functioning as it should, but we are still in the early sets at present.
I firmly believe that the closer we get to 2014, the more this game will heat up, and they will start getting everything together. As they do so, as WE do so…. the public will start to get really engaged with it all, while right now, they are a bit bored by all the slow tactical play…..But come late 2013, and from early 2014….Just watch!!!
Andy won his match, and I still believe Scotland will win ours.
Andy may never be champion of the world, but he can certainly compete with the best, and even beat them on occasion.
Likewise, Scotland can perform as well as any other nation, and we have more in our locker than most…We don’t need to be the Biggest, to make us one of the best, and others respect us for it…Russia,China,India,Europe,The Middle East, and even the USA when they bother considering anyone other than their own interests..all know we are players when we get onto the world stage….Even if the Brits don’t really fancy our chances much if we don’t wear the Imperial colours.
Ask not what we contribute to the UK, ask instead what the UK gives to us,apart from Bank Debts and dodgy self serving politicians.
We already know that we have the game..we just need to believe in ourselves that we can and will win it, only self doubt and irrational fear can take it away from us….
Otherwise, with all that we have going for us,We just need to get out there and play our best game…and the result will be….
GAME SET MATCH AND NATION
