As yet another day passes, with the Better Together Parties still trying to cause doubt and confusion and indeed engender fear, as they try to ingrain the fear of uncertainty into the Scottish psyche.
And as they have been ploughing this furrow for years, they think that having worked in the past it will work this time too. I have news for them…It wont!
The demands for certain answers, for immediate answers, for cast iron guarantees which nobody can give about the future, not here, not anywhere, not ever! No matter if its Scotland or the UK, or America, or the World. Nobody knows anything of for certain. We are not prophets or soothsaysers, we stopped believing in these, sometime round the time of Methuselah.
Life is by its very nature, uncertain, and change goes on whether we like it or not, and we cannot give answers to all that will happen, could happen, fear might happen, or hope will happen?
Yet such are the answers that they require, and impossible as these are, they make matters worse, by asking for the answers right now!
They say, that they want to debate, that they are calling for debate, and yet they do anything but debate!
Today they want to seemingly have reassurances about Europe, Yet they cannot reassure us that the UK will remain in Europe!
They call those supporting Scottish Independence, Separatists..and castigate us for it! They say that having control over our own choices and decisions is foolish, and that we are Better together within a system which limits our choice, and prevents us from making important decisions for ourselves. Yet many of them are Separatists who want to be removed from Europe, for the same reasons we want to end our union with them.
The Big difference is, that they really do want to be isolated from Europe, while we want to be trading on good terms with our European neighbours. They want isolationism we want Internationalism.
While the evidence is categorically clear, an Independent Scotland will be part of Europe. We cannot say for sure that rUK will be!
As Scotland drives towards exclusivity and cooperation, they drive towards exclusion and separation.
But in an effort to put this European nonsense to bed once and for all, and without doubt. let me refer you to European Law and the formative treaty of the European Union, where it says this.
(ex Article 17 TEC)
1. Citizenship of the Union is hereby established. Every person holding the nationality of a Member State shall be a citizen of the Union. Citizenship of the Union shall be additional to and not replace national citizenship.
2. Citizens of the Union shall enjoy the rights and be subject to the duties provided for in the Treaties. They shall have, inter alia:
(a) the right to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States;”
In effect, ALL Scots are and have been citizens of the European Union for 40 years!
And as Citizens of the European Union, we retain separate rights from the state, and additional citizenship to that of our own National Citizenship.
Whether Scotland becomes once more Independent or not, from the British State, we still remain European Citizens in our own right, and that cannot simply be taken away from us. The likely judgement of the European court with regards to the status of both Scotland and rUK is that both share the status of Successor States to that of the present UK.
Our own Individual rights as Europeans are protected under this Treaty. and you cannot throw out a Country and not throw out that Countries nationals… It makes no sense whatsoever.
The Charter of Fundamental Rights goes further:
““The peoples of Europe, in creating an ever closer union among them, are resolved to share a peaceful future based on common values. Conscious of its spiritual and moral heritage, the Union is founded on the indivisible, universal values of human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity; it is based on the principles of democracy and the rule of law. It places the individual at the heart of its activities, by establishing the citizenship of the Union and by creating an area of freedom, security and justice.”
So all this frothing at the mouth from the BitterTogether Bunch is just that, Frothing at the Mouth…Its like watching a bunch of Rabid Dogs completely losing it!
It is impossible to answer the questions they pose in greater detail, because in order to do that, Scotland must first of all have voted for Independence…and it is only at that point, can the mechanics be proceeded with, and that will require the working with the EU, UN, and all other relevant bodies and peoples, to establish the exact frameworks and treaties needed..Hence why it will take a couple of years from the Independence vote to the point of actual Independence..It cannot happen over night, or the next day, it will take time! And it is utterly ridiculous that the Unionists should e requiring these complicated answers at this time.
They cannot forever go from one question of process, to arguing another question of process, without eventually having to engage in proper debate on what Independence will mean to the people of Scotland, and also conversely what choosing to remain in the UK would mean in reality, and comparing the two options against each other.
Of course, the more they can confuse, misdirect, and alarm the Scottish populace, and for as long as possible, suits them just fine.
But here is a conundrum to leave you with.
Why, If they consider us to be so weak, and poverty stricken, do they also contend we are hugely important to them?
