Lest We Forget

They stand all in line to Remember
All the Lives so needlessly lost
The poppy’s they’re wearing are Blood Red
and they signify the ultimate cost
They march and salute with their flags raised
And stand to Attention so proud
Let the Dead in their millions be so Praised
for exchanging their Life for a shroud

The Politicians,The Diplomats, The Kings and the Queens
All stand at the front of the Line
But when wars they engage, where poor men take its stage
Of them all you will see not a sign
They then stand at the tall stone,as they place a wreath
and their heads they will briefly all bow
In their acts of respect and remembrance,do they even know how?

Every year for barely two minutes, silence comes over the land
But what in the world are they thinking?
When the silence enfolds where they stand
The eleventh hour passes, their Butchers rag’s packed away
And so their mansions for their Sunday Lunch
It was a good turn out today, In conversation they say
But of the veterans were losing so much

It’s but a brief interruption, that’s all good for morale
And they must kid the people they care
Then it’s back to real business, of their power and their greed
Of planning the next war and where?
If they really Remembered, and if they didn’t forget
Another conflict they never would fight
Instead they scour the world, and send the soldiers out there
For some cause that they’ve no business or right

All the pomp and procession, all the heads that are bowing
And the slow march to the death drum
All the flags that are standing, and the hymns that are praising
to the death of an intolerable sum
What is the point of Remembrance, when there’s no lesson learning
And all those lives spent have just gone to waste
Thus it goes on till our last post and chorus
And more Wars with deaths bitter taste

And so for the people, they must keep right on paying
As they lose their children, shed more bitter tears
Then as their coffins come back we salute them
And we’ll be sure to Remember next year
There’s no justice in war for the maimed and the dead
And where’s the Just Cause, for those that survive?
So just hand me your gun,and I’ll shoot myself
If It would mean that I’ll keep them alive

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod
