Who Are You?And where did you come from?

It is sometimes said that you have got to where you have been, to know where you are going to.

What often shapes our decisions in the present, in our daily lives, is based on our own knowledge of what we have learned. We often shape our decisions and our future plans, on what we personally know from what we have experienced. It is our history which allows us to shape our future.

The same can be said for our countries history. Unfortunately Scotlands history wasn’t taught when I was at school in the nineteen seventies. We had the Vikings, The Norman Conquest, The battle of Hastings, The war of the roses. But of Scotland’s history, very little, if at all?

I am glad to say that things are changing, and Scotlands history is being made available to kids growing up today.
I am glad to know that they will learn how Scotland shaped the modern world in the Scottish Enlightenment, and It wasn’t so terribly long ago historically. For such a small country we have contributed far above our relative size.
If the children of today can learn of this, it gives us hope that they will be inspired to emulate some of the great Scots of the past, and perhaps create a Scottish Enlightenment of their own.
We are not too wee, too poor, or too insignificant. We may be small, but we are rich in resources and talent and creativity. We are certainly not insignificant!

For those who wish to learn a bit more about what our kids are starting to learn today, and maybe find a wee bit out for yourselves, I will leave a link for you to look at.

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod
