Who are these Foreigners?

As I mentioned in another article recently, there has been a gradual ramping up of the rhetoric being used my the British Government and the British Media against a whole raft of people living in these Islands.
One of the foremost groups targeted has been immigrants from other countries, how they are coming here and taking our jobs, living large on our benefit system, and are a blight on our society.
We have seen how this propaganda has been having a very unsettling effect on those who have been buying all this rubbish without examining the reality of the facts.

We have seen the sudden rise of UKIP in the last English local elections,to the degree that they are neck and neck in the opinion polls with the Conservatives and above the Liberal Democrats.
The BBC and the the rest of the media in England have been going overboard in giving Michael Farage and is party credence and publicity far beyond their actual representation in the political mainstream, given that they have as yet still to actually have one MP in the Westminster parliament. Why is this?

It is obvious from the English local elections where UKIPS share of the vote rose from its previous meagre 0.4% share of the vote to 24% in these recent elections, that a large number of people in England have been buying this concerted media campaign seriously. I again ask, why have the British media been ramping up this racism? It is these papers and these tv and radio producers who are doing this, but on whose orders, and to what end?

Despite all this media attention, and the sudden upsurge in UKIPs popularity south of the border, it hasn’t transferred win any significant manner to feelings In Scotland, where Farage badly miscalculated in his own publicity, and got ran out of Edinburgh in the back of a police armoured vehicle.
The Scottish Nationalists of course got the blame for this protest, when in actuality it was a bunch of Edinburgh college students, and a socialist group who protested, and some of their numbers were English.

It has got even scarier in the past few days, where two Londoners of African ethnicity committed the murder of an off duty soldier in Woolwich in broad daylight. This event was immediately claimed to be a terrorist attack, when it was nothing of the sort. It was a murder committed by two radicalised Londoners. The BBC even announced that they looked Muslim, before they even knew anything of the attackers identity and motives. How someone looks Muslim is beyond me? Who looks Christian, or Bhuddist or Hindu?

It so happens that these people were supposedly Muslims, although the majority of Muslims in this country would vehemently protest that their actions were not behaving in any way like their religion teaches.
Much like I would as a Christian immediately distance myself from any such act by some extreme Christian groups. Its like attributing the previous actions of the provisional IRA to all Catholics, or the actions of the UDA to all protestants.

But what has happened since that tragic event is worrying too, with gangs of Racist English groups in the EDL and BNP attacking Muslims and mosques. Hate breeds Hate, and the situation could well run very quickly out of control… Is this really what those who spread this poisonous propaganda are really wanting? If so, I would have to question motive.

Bringing this closer to home and to Scotland, we see very little evidence of such racism in Scottish society, although it undoubtedly exists to some small extent with idiots who know no better.
But what I will say it this, we have been seeing some attempts to encourage racism by the Labour party and to the BBC. That sounds like a ludicrous allegation I have just made doesn’t it?
But if you really think about it, not all that ludicrous unfortunately.

Part of Labours ongoing anti independence campaign has been built on trying to ramp up feelings of division. There have been various incidences of it recently in the past couple of years, and it is those who support Independence who have been their targets for it.
Scottish Nationalist have consistently been compared to those of the BNP and the EDL, of being Nazis, and having a racist hatred of the English. All of course untrue… But the accusation is being consistently made. The fact that Scottish nationalism is a civic nationalism is entirely ignored. Most Scottish Nationalists that I know of, only want to have the right to self determination for their country, and to have the right that every other Independent country in world has, to make our own choices for our own society without interference or rule by others. The chance to be able to take responsibility for our own mistakes if you like.

We have had Ian Davidson MP Chair of the Scottish Select committee in Westminster claiming that Scots murdered thousands of English people at the Battle of Bannockburn.
We recently had the twitter storm of leading Labour activist Ian Smart saying that Scots would make racist attacks against “Poles and Pakis” once we were independent, and being supported in his views by Lord Jack McConnell, before he had even read what all the umbrage was about.
We had the BBC reporting as news that there had been an increase of attacks by Scots against English people recently, despite the reports evidence actually saying no such thing and actually proving the opposite was the case, there had been no such evidence whatsoever.

Labour using their ” Separatist” language has continually spread the nonsense that Scots would be alienated from, and alienating the rest of our neighbours in the British Isles. That we will need passports to travel to and from the rest of Britain, with custom posts set up at border.
Alistair Darling has said that our friends in England, Wales and Northern Ireland would all be foreigners to us.
It is all nonsense of course, but dangerous nonsense. As labour have for years in the West of Scotland played the Sectarian card in some communities, they have continued and expanded that policy by now playing the Race card.

In todays Good Morning Scotland on BBC Radio Scotland, Margaret Curran the Shadow Scottish Secretary continued in the same vein to ludicrous proportions. She claimed that should her own son go to an English University, he would in the event of Scottish Independence become Foreign to her!
Her own son foreign? It took the Interviewer aback too, but she still persisted with that line, and claimed that she would be uncomfortable with the fact.
The fact of the matter is England, Wales,Northern Ireland, and Scotland all are separate countries and there is no such thing as a country called Britain. It is separate countries operating collectively as one unit. Scottish Independence is not in any way removing ourselves from our neighbours, it is ending the political union. We will still work with and cooperate with our friends and neighbours, and our families in different parts of these Isles, nor anywhere else in this world, will not suddenly become foreigners to us. My cousins in Australia will still be family, and my brother In Northern Ireland will still be Scottish.

These Isles are multi cultural, and have been for generations, people have gone from here to the Americas, To Australia and New Zealand and all parts of the world. Many have come through the generations and settled in these shores, and their children have become Scots. They have all contributed many things to our land, and their forebears will continue to enrich us.
We are all children of this world…. And what we do not need is the sort of politics Labour, and the British Government, and the British media are now espousing.
In fact if anything, these types of policies only enforce my desire to have nothing whatsoever to do with the type of Government, political parties, and media that promotes such division and encourages such division and hatred, for the purpose of retaining their own power.

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod

Bateman can’t have long left in his BBC career – it’s simply not on putting the likes of Mags under the spotlight

  2. I wish the Scottish media would challenge the labour party and #bettertogether on this line of propaganda, for it’s nothing less. (its Nigel Farage btw) totally agree with all the sentiments above.

Very good blog and you may have hit the nail on the head when you talk about the attacks in the media on those of us who believe in the YES campaign. Possibly the recent attacks by the media and politicians is about the threat of Scottish Independence and the push to get out of Europe by some. By ramping out the fear or the accusations people could just vote no on the basis that they have been made to feel they would be a racist to vote otherwise. Like the attacks using economics to make other people afraid of losing their social security and pensions, this shows the extent that the establishment will use every means at their disposal to keep what they have.
