Certainly Uncertainty

Today.. I have good  and bad news for all of those Remain voters in Scotland and for all of those of them who voted NO in the Scottish Independence referendum of 2014.
You have your wish in remaining in the UK union. Better Together for poorer not richer, In sickness not in health, till in death taxes do you part.

The Vow which you accepted turns out not to be worth the cheap parchment it was written on.
Your pensions which you were assured would be safer under the UK are increasingly under threat.
The promise that you would remain in the EU only if you rejected Independence has proven to be short lived.
But you can be glad that for the moment, the NHS which you were told would be under threat if Scotland chose Independence is safe for a while longer. The Scottish NHS is Independent from the English and Welsh NHS which is in dire straits, seriously underfunded, and being privatised in chunks. However, don’t hold your breath, the Scottish NHS will seriously become sick due to Westminster cutting Scotlands budget by 1.5 billion in the next few years.

But don’t worry your little heads….Brexit is coming.

All you farmers are about to lose your EU subsidies…Don’t expect Westminster to fill that hole.

All you fishermen are going to lose your subsidies too, but don’t worry fishing restrictions will still stay in place as the UK strikes a worse deal.

All you business people who rely on European parts, and who export to the EU are about to find the parts becoming a lot more expensive, and your order books drying up.

All you tourist industry people….guess what….you are about to lose these EU staff who you have come to rely on, and with them a huge reduction in tourist income from the EU as the tourists from there stop coming and find somewhere cheaper to holiday.

For Business…. You will lose the following EU funding.

through Scottish Enterprise….2 million annually for projects in general including ICT and life sciences projects.

East of Scotland funding up to 50,000  for  Current Eligible Sectors: Manufacturing, Construction, Wholesale, Transport and Distribution, Software Development, Farm diversification, Tourism

West of Scotland loan fund of up to 100,000 pa  in all sectors

Scottish loan fund   up to 5million in all sectors

The list goes on…. It is extensive, covering everything from research to infrastructure projects… All of which will be a huge loss across the board, particularly in loss of employment projects.

But don’t worry yourself….Westminster and the union will step into the breach..right!?

As for everyone else…
Well the cost of living is going to rocket, everything from food stuffs to travel.
Foreign holidays that so many have become accustomed to….ahh well, you can stay at home I suppose, no more just hopping on a flight to Barcelona or wherever, as visas will be required and they will cost you too.

As infrastructure and tourism jobs and other sectors jobs go, an increase in unemployment, and a higher cost in housing…. All good I hear you say.
Westminster will see us alright.

Ahh….If only we could have had the certainty in the supposed uncertainty of an Independent Scotland..

But that boat has sailed….and you wont have that chance to change your mind now…….or will you?

If you had the chance again….would you still say No?
Or would you maybe have a little confidence that we can do better?

Saying YES to Scotland in Europe….. that would never do would it?

Goodness me…..what a daft idea…. Better Together with the Union….It is our pals and Theresa will make sure we are all ok ….wont she….

Full English Brexit please …with all the trimmings

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod

Just think this is a nice way of asking for support for our future.

  2. At fourteen I was certain that Scotland and we Scots would be better served by running our own country, fifty years later I am still certain I only question the gullibility of some fellow Scots!
