Carrying on from my last piece on the subject of Sovereignty.
I noticed again tonight on STV Theresa May being interviewed on the subject of Brexit.
This by itself is not in the slightest bit unusual, after all it is the subject of the day at the moment and for quite some time to come I would imagine.
During the Interview with Harry Reid, May was once again asked if she would allow Scotland to have another Independence referendum.
Not at all surprisingly she answered to the effect of, Scotland has already had a referendum and they answered it by deciding to remain with the union.
That as far as she was concerned was a settled matter and Scots should not have another Independence referendum, but rather the Scottish government should focus on taking part in Brexit.
By taking part, she meant do as she tells them. She again made it perfectly clear that all negotiations with the EU would be taken by her government and her government alone, but of course the Scottish government along with the other devolved administrations would be consulted and informed along the way.
Nothing new there, and of course she didn’t answer the question if she would allow another Scottish referendum.
I have lost count how often she has been asked this question now, both in interviews in the BBC and STV, and also reported in the press.
Now given that this question has been asked so often of her, and given that she has on every turn given the same non answer, why do these interviewers in the media and the press keep asking the same question? They already know the answer she will give, so why keep at it?
Why also does the Scottish Tories keep banging on about the SNP always going on about independence when the SNP barely mentions the word?
The plain answer to both these questions is media smoke and mirrors.
The Scottish Tories moaning at every opportunity to the press about the SNP banging on about Independence is purely designed to have it reported, and that the public have the perception that this is what the SNP does, even if it is almost entirely false.
Note that neither the press nor media question the Tories when they come out with this guff. They simply report it as if it were fact. So the ordinary non political anoraks who buy into this spin actually believe it to be true. The SNP must be continually going on about Independence because they hear it and read it reported.
So when the SNP do raise the question of an Independence referendum, the reaction is…oh here they go again!
On the matter of May being asked on countless occasions if she will allow a Scottish referendum. The continual asking of this question lends some sort of supposed legitimacy to the power of granting a referendum or denying a referendum being in her hands. She has no say whatsoever on the matter, only the Scots people do. But if the general populace is led to believe that she and the Westminster government do have this power, then they are conned into giving up the power of sovereignty that they already have. They are culled into the belief that Westminster has primacy and sovereignty.
So watch carefully what questions are asked repeatedly, and watch carefully what the media say is the big issues, for likely as not what they want you to be fixed on is not what you should be looking out for!
Scots are sovereign, do not forget this!
It is in our power to choose what we will, and if those that represent us will not listen, then we must make them listen, and act on our will!
