The Lion is Rampant

After a very long slumber, the people of Scotland are finally waking up.A great many have woken up already, others are on a daily are basis joining them, while some more are coming fitfully out of their dream state.

Many have firmly grasped the long forgotten wish for Independence and are running with it, while others are still pondering if it was but a dream, and what it all means? The collective dream has reached the unstoppable tipping point, and nothing will ever stop that dream becoming a reality now. Scots however are a pragmatic people, and take nothing for granted. We know with certainty that there are those who will move heaven and earth in order to stop us achieving our vision, and they will use every dirty trick in the book to hinder us.
Not for our own good, but for their own good.

With all that in mind,we know we cannot relax for one moment in the next two years,if we are to attain our dream. But even now,do we actually fail to grasp how momentous a vision we could yet have, not just for Scotland, but for the world at large. Might we not only be the people who can enter History by our actions in achieving Scotland her Independence, might we also dare to have a greater vision still?

It is not enough to simply regain our Independence. We may also begin right now to assert ourselves. We need not wait 2 years to act as voting fodder,we can if we so desire create a voice which no one can gainsay. That voice can not only usher in Independence, It can shake and shape our very future as a people who take control over our own lives and Independence, by radically altering our means of government.

Constitutionally, we the people of Scotland are already Sovereign.
We have been thus since the original Claim of Right in 1689, prior to the 1707 act of Union and still legally in force till this day.

The Claim of Right was based on the writings of George Buchanan.
He wrote De Jure Regni apud Scotos, published in 1579. In this famous work, Buchanan lays down the doctrine that the source of all political power is the people, that the king is bound by those conditions under which the supreme power was first committed to his hands, and that it is lawful to resist, even to punish, tyrants.

The importance of the work is proved by the persistent efforts of the legislature to suppress it during the century following its publication. It was condemned by act of parliament in 1584, and again in 1664; and in 1683 it was burned by the University of Oxford, before eventually finding its way into the formation of the Scottish Claim of Right.

Prior to the Claim of Right we had the world famous Declaration of Arbroath, the precursor the American Declaration of independence, which stated that the independence of Scotland was the prerogative of the Scots people, rather than the King of Scots.
In fact it stated that the nobility would choose someone else to be king if the current one did anything to threaten Scotland’s independence,Is a clear declaration and expression of popular sovereignty.

At the inaugural meeting of the Scottish Constitutional Convention in 1988 which established a new Claim of Right(Not a Legal Document)The opening statement of The Claim of Right read:

We, gathered as the Scottish Constitutional Convention, do hereby acknowledge the sovereign right of the Scottish people to determine the form of Government best suited to their needs, and do hereby declare and pledge that in all our actions and deliberations their interests shall be paramount.

Kenyon Wright stated;

‘What if that other voice we all know so well responds by saying, ‘We say no, and we are the state’,? Well we say yes – and we are the people.’

A new version of the Claim of Right shall enter shortly into Law in the Scottish Parliament,we shall soon see who would among them will dare to deny our Right of Sovereignty.

We have seen repeated by the Westminster parliament, and this week by Lord Tarkerdness, Jim Wallace, claims that it would be illegal for the SNP government to have a referendum on Independence without the authority being given by Westminster under the Scotland Act.

His claim wrests on the sovereignty belonging with Westminster.
This may be the case as far as the people of England are concerned, it is decidedly not the case with the people of Scotland. If our will be for a referendum, and it is, then they cannot deny our will.
For we are Sovereign.

We as the people of Scotland must realise once more what it means to be Sovereign, and many of us do not even realise what power and authority that Sovereignty gives us. We have slept walked for so long, that we have nearly all forgotten.
We have listened to the whispering of serpents and believed these assiduous whispers to be true, but no longer, our eyes have opened, and we shall once more reclaim our Right, and International Law is clear on our right to do so, no matter what the puppet masters and their puppets in Westminster might say.

The Lion shall once more be Rampant, and it will once again raise its mighty voice, and we shall as a people determine our own future, and no one shall gainsay our right to do so.

My next article will explain how we as the people of Scotland can assert our Sovereignty now, and we need not wait two and a half years to begin.

About auldacquaintance

I am not a member of any political party. I am however a strong supporter of Scots Independence. Any views which I express in this Blog are purely my own. This Blog intends to be a place where I will be putting my views on Scots Independence. It will primarily concern itself with the upcoming Referendum In Scotland. However It will also be somewhat diverse in the range of day to day issues which are evident to me in modern day Scotland. Not all of it will be political, and indeed may take me off into avenues I am not even aware of yet. Please come and join in on this journey, and any comments are welcome provided they are not abusive! All the best from a new acquaintance! Rod

  1. I look forwards to your writings, you are a great patriot.

    • Thank you Ronnie.
I merely believe whole heartedly in my Country, our people, and in myself. Each and every one of us has something to contribute to the good of our neighbours and our Nation. All we need to do, is have the confidence to believe in ourselves and have the aspiration to make our land better for everyone. It need not be a hard thing to do. It is easy if we try.

  2. Stevie says:

The people are sovereign – laws are invalid when rejected by population.

The Brit nats know this more than most – Ghandi, Irish Republic etc – yet they are the quintessential specialists of the Divide and Rule philosophy.

They will lie, steal, blackmail, intimidate, menace, fearmonger, scorch the earth, bribe, maligne, manipulate and anything else they can come up with. They’re already ticking off some of these boxes.

We have to get on the doorsteps of every house and speak to every voter several times – speak to people we know several times.

Offer a better future and be rid of a politically fruitless past.
